GARMS held its first Annual Conference in Kumasi from November 21–23, 2024, bringing sonographers together to promote innovation, learning, and professional growth. The event, accredited by the Allied Health Professions Council, marked a key step in advancing sonography in Ghana

At the GARMS Inaugural Annual Conference in Kumasi, Professor Wiafe, Head of Medical Imaging at KNUST and Ghana’s first Registered Medical Sonographer, called for intensified training in fetal echocardiography. He highlighted its importance in detecting congenital heart defects early and urged institutions to prioritize building capacity in this vital area to improve maternal and fetal health outcomes.

The 2025 theme for GARMS is “Placenta Accreta Spectrum: Improving Our Knowledge Scope as Sonographers.” It highlights the growing importance of early detection and accurate diagnosis of PAS due to its rising global incidence and associated maternal risks. The theme calls for enhanced training and awareness to strengthen sonographers’ roles in improving maternal-fetal outcomes and aligning local practices with international standards.

The GARMS Secretariat urges all members and sonography professionals to actively contribute to the Association’s growth. Emphasizing unity and shared purpose, the call highlights that building GARMS is a collective effort. By engaging every member’s voice and skills, the Association can strengthen its impact, set standards, and shape the future of diagnostic imaging in Ghana and beyond.
