Detection of Cavernous Transformation of the Portal Vein in a 22-year-old Male with Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding by Abdominal Duplex Ultrasonography: A Case Report

Cavernous transformation of the portal vein, although a hepatic condition, may manifest with clinical features similar to those in patients with gastrointestinal pathologies. Particularly in young patients with no prior history of alcoholism or hepatic pathology, the diagnosis of cavernous transformation of the portal vein may be missed in an emergency setting where patients’ reported symptoms may be mimicking those associated with bleeding peptic ulcer or other gastrointestinal pathologies.

Effectiveness of prenatal ultrasound in fetal sex identification: a systematic review and meta-analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the accuracy of ultrasound in determining fetal sex. Based on 28 studies, first-trimester accuracy averaged 85%, while second and third-trimester accuracy rose to 99%. Sensitivity improved with gestational age, from 69% at 11 weeks to 96% at 13 weeks. There were no significant statistical differences between ultrasound predictions and actual birth sex. Male fetuses are more accurately identified later in pregnancy, while female fetuses are more accurately identified earlier. Overall, ultrasound is a reliable tool for fetal sex determination, especially useful for managing sex-related pregnancy issues.

Relationship between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and cardiac remodeling during pregnancy: Systematic review and meta-analysis

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) affect up to 8% of pregnancies and are a major cause of maternal mortality. While HDP is known to increase long-term cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, its effects during pregnancy are less clear. One concern is maternal cardiac remodeling—changes in heart structure and function—often seen in HDP. Studies suggest increased left ventricular mass and hypertrophy in HDP, but it’s unclear if these changes are significantly greater than in normal pregnancies. Aortic root involvement is also rarely studied, despite its serious risks. This review aims to compare cardiac remodeling in HDP and normotensive pregnancies and assess changes in aortic root size.

The association of blood pressure, body mass index and carotid intima‐media thickness as childhood predictors of cardiovascular disease risk: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading global cause of death, often beginning with risk factors in childhood like obesity and high blood pressure. Early detection is important, and noninvasive tools like carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) measured by ultrasound may help. However, there’s limited evidence on how strongly CIMT is linked to body mass and blood pressure in children. This review aims to assess that relationship statistically.
